About the Poor Clares: We are a group of fifteen sisters who live a contemplative monastic life according to the Rule of Saint Clare. As part of the worldwide Franciscan Order we have been present in South Carolina for over 60 years.

Goal of the Monastic Immersion Experience: To offer an opportunity for women to experience the prayer, work and leisure of a contemplative community. The experience also gives the community an opportunity to be enriched by the presence, gifts, and talents which the volunteers will bring to our common search for God. The experience provides an opportunity for personal and spiritual growth through sharing in the silence, reflection and daily rhythm of the Poor Clare life.

  • Financial arrangement: The Monastery supplies room and board; volunteers need to provide their own health insurance and minimal spending money.
  • Living arrangements: Living in community with the sisters; private bedroom & private bathroom
  • Orientation to monastic life, Franciscan spirituality, Liturgy of the Hours, faith sharing, optional spiritual direction available; the emphasis is on experiencing monastic life; inservice training will be provided as needed.
  • Program size: One to four women

Our monthly dinner on Sunday, February 19th has upgraded into a potluck with a speaker! Feed your belly and your soul 🙂 Update your calendars! Sister Regina Cochran, FSE who served as a (much loved) speaker at one of our Diocesan retreats is visiting Greenville this weekend. On Sunday, Rachel Neubauer (many of you know her as the former Associate Director of Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese who accepted a position here in Greenville at St. Joseph’s Catholic School) is hosting a potluck at her home starting at 5:30pm on Sunday. You’re invited to bring a picnic blanket and/or lawn chair to enjoy this wonderful weather and a dish to share. BYOBeverage! KIDS ARE WELCOME! Sister Regina will speak on the topic:  ‘Complementary in the Church in Today’s World: The Masculine and Feminine Genius’ beginning at 6:30pm.

Come for the potluck or the speaker or both, as your time permits. Get the address by texting Rachel at 815-670-0831 or Kylee at 864-266-8843.

We get excited when we find Catholic business owners and entrepreneurs right here in our local community like Sully’s Steamers (owner, Robert Sullivan – try the Father Newman’s Own sandwich!), O’Malley Dentistry (Ryan O’Malley, DMD),  Elgin Williamson Enterprises (family owned business of Claudia Williamson specializing in 24 Hour Wrecker Service & Full Service Collision Repair) , Masters Car Stereo, Randomonium Band, Audrey Hamilton (singer), St. Anthony’s Catholic Bookstore, St. Benedict’s Catholic Store, Jamie McGowen rosary designs, and many more (check your parish bulletin for advertising). Feel free to email us at lvgreenville@gmail.com with more!

To add to this great list, one of our young adults (Joshua Hamilton) is launching a Catholic t-shirt store! When interviewed about the reasons for creating this business, he said: “I have 3 main reasons: one is that we praise our athletes and celebrities and should also praise our saints; another is that the Catholic shirts found online are often not the kind I would want to wear, and finally, the most important reason is that it is a wonderful evangelization tool enabling me to walk my walk with Christ with public accountability and opportunity to engage others in faith-based discussion.” See designs on the website or order directly by emailing Info@coolcatholictshirts.com

Upcoming events in LVG (questions? contact us at lvgreenville@gmail.com):

  • Thursday, February 2 concludes our Toolbox Study led by Sarah P. The final week for our Toolbox Study is about making it personal. 1 Peter says “Always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience”. So why DO you have hope in your faith? In Christ? Why are you a Catholic Christian? Why should you tell anyone, even if they ask? This week, we’ll go through some of these questions and more to pull together some thoughts from our own lives in order to answer the question – “So why do you believe that?” Meet at St. Francis Eastside (in the Chapel conference room – enter lobby C, take a left, door is on the left) at 7pm.
