After the Holy Eucharist, the most important form of Christian prayer is the Liturgy of the Hours, also called the Divine Office. In the Roman form of the Divine Office there are two liturgical Hours for the evening: Vespers and Compline. In the 16th century Book of Common Prayer, these two Hours were combined into one celebration called Evensong, and this beautiful way of praying is part of the Anglican patrimony preserved in the Catholic Church by the Personal Ordinariates for Catholics from the Anglican tradition. The Community of St. Anselm’s is offering this splendid opportunity of liturgical prayer to everyone at St. Mary’s and in the wider community. Please join us at 5 pm and bring a friend for Evensong on Oct. 20 (see the Facebook event), Nov. 24, & Jan. 12 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
